A pilot from the Reno Air Races survived a spectacular crash while running in the Super Sport Gold Race on Sunday.
George Giboney from Des Moines, Washington, was flying the Thunder Mustang named 'Rapid Travel' when his plane went down shortly after take-off.
As our pictures show, the plane was virtually smashed to pieces as it skidded across the dusty airfield.
It failed to get off the ground after zipping along the runway and appeared to catch a pothole or a rock and began to flip out of control.

Mayday! Shortly after take-off the plane quickly runs into trouble as it topples over with the right wing scraping the ground
Out of control: Debris can be seen flying from the plane as it spins out of control
Survived: Amazingly, pilot George Giboney was able to climb out of the wreckage of the plane and signal to the crowds that he was OK before he was rushed to hospital
Amazingly, George emerged from the wreckage virtually unscathed and signaled to the anxious crowd with a thumbs up before he was transported to hospital.
It's though his Thunder Mustang is a hand-made replica of a Mustang fighter plane which were widely used during World War II. The P-51 Mustang was the nemesis of the Luftwaffe, shooting down over 4,900 enemy planes.
Air Race officials say the T-6 and Unlimited Gold Races have been cancelled due to the high winds being too strong to conduct a safe race.

The raced have been held just outside Reno, Nevada, every year since 1964 and draw plane enthusiasts from all over the world.
Officials say according to the rule book, if the last race is cancelled, the pilot who qualified first will be deemed as the default winner.
Wrecked: The plane breaks up into pieces as it crashes over the ground to an eventual halt. Pilot George Giboney was taking part in the 47th Annual National Air Races and Air show in Reno
What a wreck: The plane eventually grinds to a halt in a crumpled heap. The rest of the races were cancelled due to the high winds being too strong to conduct a safe race
Original and the best: George Giboney's plane is thought to have been a hand-built repleca of World War II Mustang fighter plane, similar to the one above
The winner of the T-6 was the top qualifier, Dennis Buehn from Carson City. Meanwhile, the winner of the Breitling Unlimited Gold Race is Steve Hinton for a second year in a row who says it was a bittersweet victory.
